A project to create a database of historic stock prices ends up delivering a versatile decision making tool

The Customer

A leading multinational financial institution.

The Challenge
Our customer wanted to build a database of Historic Stock Prices using a financial news provider's interface. The task involved establishing connectivity to the provider's proprietary application, loading historic data from the server and then capturing information in a real-time scenario. A highly optimized solution was needed to handle the high volume of real time streaming data.

The Solution
The GAVS team developed Ed-Mart, a solution that exceeded requirements and expectations.

How it works:

  • A highly optimized algorithm was constructed to scan through history data and identify the data to be updated based on configurable parameters. Specified key attributes were used to verify the integrity and structure of the retrieved data before the database was populated.
  • A data accumulator engine was developed using supported protocol and installed in the financial news providers server. This engine collects data at customizable, pre-determined times and dumps it into a data store at Ed-Mart. The accumulated data is then transferred to our customer's Portfolio Management Database.

The Benefits

  • The solution delivers a versatile and useful management tool - way beyond the stated requirement of a History Data Accumulator.
  • The shrinkage in data accumulation times allows for faster and more informed decision making sand real time portfolio valuation.
